Egypt and Oman Explore Strategic Partnership in Waste Management and Recycling

Cairo: Minister of State for Military Production Salah Suleiman Gamblat met with a delegation from Oman, including officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Oman Investment Authority (OIA), and Oman's Al-Baraa Al-Khadra company, alongside representatives of Papierus Egypt, to discuss cooperation in several fields, focusing on waste management and recycling. Gamblat highlighted the close fraternal relations between Egypt and Oman, emphasizing the guidance of political leadership in both countries.According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting explored possibilities for collaboration in mutual areas of interest, particularly in waste management integration. The extensive experience of the Ministry of Military Production and the surplus production capacity of its affiliated companies were considered assets for potential joint ventures. The ongoing cooperation between the Ministry and Papierus has already led to the establishment of a model complex for producing environmentally friendly cardboa rd packaging from banana tree fiber waste at one of the ministry's factories. The second phase of this project involves organic fertilizer production.Gamblat described the complex as a strategic public-private partnership model that supports the state's sustainable development efforts. Ismail El-Sayyed, a board member of Papierus Egypt, noted the value of banana tree fiber waste as a resource for producing various environmentally friendly products, including pulp for paper, cardboard packaging, and organic fertilizers. He emphasized the cooperation with the Ministry of Military Production, praising its advanced manufacturing capabilities and skilled workforce. El-Sayyed also mentioned the potential for collaboration with the Omani side to establish model complexes for recycling banana tree fibers and extracting activated carbon from coconut trees in Oman.The Omani delegation expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended by the minister and visited the cardboard packaging production line at one of the m inistry's factories, as well as the 'Mostaqbal-1' waste recycling line, which produces organic fertilizer and alternative fuel. They praised the ministry's industrial, technological, and technical capabilities, recognizing its significant role in military manufacturing and as a key industrial arm in Egypt. The delegation also noted Oman's strategic location as a potential gateway for transferring cardboard production technology to countries across Asia and Africa.The meeting concluded with all parties agreeing on the importance of continuing discussions to establish concrete mechanisms for activating a productive strategic partnership.
