Kuala Lumpur: Egypt and France have extended an invitation to Malaysia to join efforts in coordinating the reconstruction of Gaza. This initiative is part of the broader framework of the New York Declaration, which advocates for a two-state solution to the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
According to Union of OIC News Agencies, Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hassan disclosed that he was contacted by his counterparts from Egypt and France, who extended the invitation via telephone. Following the parliamentary session’s discussion on the 2026 draft budget for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hassan expressed his intent to visit Cairo. He emphasized Malaysia’s commitment to contributing to Gaza’s reconstruction, even if the contributions are limited initially, to help restore the region.
The resolution backing the New York Declaration for a peaceful resolution to the Palestine question and the implementation of a two-state solution saw significant global support, with 142 votes in favor. Meanwhile, Malaysia, in principle, is also ready to dispatch troops as part of a peacekeeping force in Gaza, contingent upon receiving a mandate and invitation from the United Nations. Hassan reiterated Malaysia’s consistent participation in UN-mandated peacekeeping missions, highlighting the importance of such mandates for deploying peacekeeping forces.
