Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos praised the close and historic relations between Egypt and Cyprus during a phone call as part of regular consultations aimed at enhancing bilateral ties and reviewing regional developments.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty expressed his aspiration for continued coordination at all levels, especially given Cyprus' current presidency of the Council of the European Union. He commended Nicosia's support for Egypt within various EU institutions and emphasized the importance of intensifying joint cooperation in the coming period. This includes activating and implementing memoranda of understanding and agreements signed between the two sides.
Abdelatty also highlighted the need to enhance economic and investment cooperation and to expedite the implementation of a memorandum of understanding on employing Egyptian labor in Cyprus. He stressed the importance of the trilateral cooperation mechanism between Egypt, Cyprus, and Greece, focusing on advancing relations in economic, trade, investment, and tourism sectors. The aim is to create more opportunities for the private sector to boost economic and trade cooperation among the three countries.
During their conversation, the two ministers exchanged views on regional developments and means to de-escalate tensions. Abdelatty briefed his Cypriot counterpart on Egypt's ongoing efforts to reduce tensions and highlighted the importance of intensifying regional and international efforts to promote diplomatic solutions. He affirmed Egypt's commitment to maintaining intensive contacts and diligent efforts to reach a consensual settlement of the Iranian nuclear file, addressing the concerns of all parties to prevent regional instability and support regional security.
