Aberdeen: ECS in London participated in the Subsea Expo in Aberdeen, Scotland, as part of its efforts to attract British and Scottish investments and engage in economic events across the UK. Minister Plenipotentiary Wael Abdul Rahim, Head of the Egyptian Commercial Service in London, attended the expo held on February 4-5, 2025. Aberdeen is recognized as a key hub for the energy industry, transitioning into a leader in renewable energy and Net Zero technologies.According to State Information Service Egypt, Wael Abdul Rahim served as a keynote speaker in a panel discussion organized by the Scottish-African Business Association. He discussed major developments and opportunities in Egypt's oil, gas, renewable energy, and green hydrogen sectors, providing insights into Egypt's economy and investment climate.Meetings were conducted with representatives from Scottish and British companies to address inquiries about Egypt's business environment and explore potential partnerships. Discussions with officials from Robert Gordon University focused on potential collaborations in educational programs, vocational training, and skill development for vital sectors like oil and gas.A meeting with Mr. David Cameron, Lord Provost of Aberdeen, included discussions on strengthening economic ties through exhibitions. Abdul Rahim proposed a twinning agreement between Aberdeen and an Egyptian city, an initiative welcomed by the Lord Provost.Minister Plenipotentiary Dr. Abdel Aziz El-Sherif highlighted Egypt's potential as a regional hub for both traditional and renewable energy. He noted the growing interest of Scottish and English companies in Egypt's opportunities. The trade exchange between Egypt and the UK from January to November 2025 reached approximately £2.5 billion, with Egyptian exports at £1.35 billion and imports from the UK at £1.17 billion. British investments in Egypt totaled roughly £20.7 billion by the end of October 2025, making Britain the second-largest investor in Egypt.
