ECS Arranges Visit by Japanese Investment Delegation to Egypt to Strengthen Partnership

Cairo: In the context of enhancing economic and investment relations between the Arab Republic of Egypt and Japan, and as part of the intensive efforts by the Egyptian Commercial Service (ECS) to attract foreign investments, the Egyptian Commercial Office in Tokyo, headed by Minister Plenipotentiary Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Gawad, in coordination with the Investment Promotion Affairs Department, is organizing a visit by a high-level Japanese delegation to Egypt. It is also coordinating the holding of the Quality Infrastructure Dialogue (QID) on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, with high-level participation from both sides, including the Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan, and senior officials from relevant government entities, the Suez Canal Economic Zone, and the Egyptian-Japanese Business Council, with the participation of leading Japanese and Egyptian companies in infrastructure and urban development.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the event will include more than 30 Japanese companies, representing the largest Japanese investment mission of its kind to an African country. This reflects Egypt's advanced position in Japan's Africa expansion strategy and the growing interest in the Egyptian market as a regional hub for infrastructure and sustainable development projects and a gateway to African markets.

Both sides confirmed that this dialogue represents a practical platform to move from promotion and exchange of views to identifying bankable projects for actual investment, particularly in transport, ports, logistics, railways and metro, airports, water and desalination, urban development, smart cities, and new and renewable energy.

The event also includes participation by the Japan Overseas Infrastructure Investment Corporation for Transport and Urban Development (JOIN), a public-private investment fund supervised by Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. The institution presented its investment mechanisms and global experience in equity participation, risk sharing, and accelerating the entry of Japanese companies into foreign markets, confirming its interest in exploring investment opportunities in Egypt in cooperation with Egyptian government entities, the Sovereign Fund of Egypt, and the Suez Canal Economic Zone, contributing to the implementation of joint projects with sustainable economic and development impact.

In this context, Minister Plenipotentiary Dr. Abdel-Aziz El-Sherif, First Undersecretary and Head of the ECS, stated that the visit and the Quality Infrastructure Dialogue represent not just an economic event but an integrated and sustainable development and investment path to activate the strategic partnership between Egypt and Japan. Egypt's hosting of this event came after extensive negotiations and institutional coordination, with the aim of presenting specific partnership projects between Egyptian and Japanese private sectors and between the public and private sectors, and strengthening Japanese investment presence in Egypt as a regional development hub for Africa.

Priority sectors for Egyptian-Japanese cooperation include industrial zones and cities, ports and logistics services, railways and metro, urban development and smart cities, water and wastewater and desalination plants, airports and multimodal transport, and new and renewable energy.

The Japanese mission includes senior executives from major Japanese companies in infrastructure, construction, engineering, consulting, trade, and investment, as well as specialized firms in ports, logistics, railways, airports, water, energy, urban development, and digital technologies and smart cities, with extensive global experience and strong track records in large-scale projects.

The dialogue will also include business matchmaking sessions and bilateral meetings between Japanese and Egyptian companies, with agreements to follow up on the outcomes and establish a clear mechanism to turn the dialogue results into actual investment projects in the coming phase, strengthening the strategic partnership between Egypt and Japan and supporting sustainable development goals in both countries.
