Cairo: Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat emphasized that Egypt's digital transformation strategies place citizens at the center, aiming to provide government services in a simplified, automated, and streamlined manner. He highlighted investments of $6 billion in both fixed-line internet and mobile services, including connecting approximately 20,000 government buildings with fiber-optic networks and extending coverage to villages under the Hayah Karima initiative.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Talaat, speaking at Siemens' 125th-anniversary celebration in Egypt on February 9, 2026, noted that digital transformation is a means to improve government services, simplify procedures, and enhance efficiency. Over the past seven and a half years, fixed-line internet speeds in Egypt have doubled, making the country first in Africa in average fixed-line speed. Plans are underway to expand mobile coverage to 40,000 towers by 2028.
He also highlighted the largest frequency allocation deal in Egypt's telecom history, providing 410 MHz to the four mobile operators, equal to all spectrum allocated over the past 30 years. He stressed the role of digital technologies in improving transport and industry services and the importance of empowering youth through training programs to build a skilled workforce for the digital economy.
Talaat praised Siemens' historic presence in Egypt since 1854 and expressed his hopes for further collaboration, including training students in WE Schools and expanding Siemens' operations in Egypt, which currently employ over 1,600 engineers. Last year, agreements with 55 global companies created over 75,000 jobs in three years, with digital exports reaching $7.4 billion and a target of $9 billion in the coming phase.
