Arab and Islamic Nations Condemn Israeli Sovereignty Bid Over West Bank

Cairo: Egypt, Arab, and Islamic countries have strongly condemned in a joint statement the Israeli Knesset’s approval of two draft laws seeking to impose ‘Israeli sovereignty’ over the occupied West Bank, describing the move as a flagrant violation of international law and UN Security Council resolutions.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the joint statement was issued by Egypt, along with Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Trkiye, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, Oman, The Gambia, Palestine, Qatar, Kuwait, Libya, Malaysia, Nigeria, the League of Arab States, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The statement condemned the Israeli Knesset’s approval of the draft laws, which is seen as an attempt to assert Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank.

The countries involved in the statement reaffirmed that Israel holds no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territories. They cited UN Security Council Resolution 2334 and the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion, which affirm the illegality of Israeli settlement construction and annexation measures.

Additionally, the countries welcomed the International Court of Justice’s opinion issued on October 22, 2025. The opinion reaffirmed Israel’s obligations under international humanitarian law to ensure essential supplies reach civilians in Gaza and the West Bank and declared Israel’s territorial claim over East Jerusalem ‘null and void.’

The statement urged the international community to compel Israel to halt its unilateral measures. They emphasized the importance of supporting the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967, borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, highlighting it as the only path toward a just and lasting peace.
