Cairo: Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding aimed at promoting agricultural innovation and translating research into scalable solutions.According to State Information Service Egypt, the MoU was inked between the Agricultural Research Center and the Alliance of Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), which is affiliated with the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). Farouk stated that the agreement aligns with Egypt's strategy to boost agricultural innovation systems by connecting scientific research with practical applications, utilizing global expertise alongside national research capabilities.The partnership is set to support applied research in biodiversity, climate-smart agriculture, and resilient food systems. It will also enhance technology transfer through pilot projects and collaboration with the private sector. Additionally, the MoU focuses on cap acity building through training programs, knowledge exchange, and cooperation with universities and research centers. This includes utilizing research facilities for field trials with farmers.Adel Abdel Azim, head of the Agricultural Research Center, mentioned that the partnership marks a significant step towards sustainable agricultural development and food security. He emphasized the launch of the 'AgriTech4Egypt' initiative, a joint Egyptian-Italian effort aimed at transforming research into market-ready agricultural innovations, thereby boosting productivity and sustainability across the nation.
