Safaga: Transport Minister Kamel El Wazir announced the arrival of three giant quay cranes and six yard cranes at the Safaga 2 multi-purpose terminal at Safaga Port. This arrival signifies a major milestone in completing the terminal superstructure as part of the Greater Safaga Port development project.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the project aligns with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's directives to establish Egypt as a regional hub for transport and logistics. The Super Post-Panamax cranes, manufactured by ZPMC, will enhance the terminal's capacity to manage large-scale shipping operations. The ship-to-shore cranes are specifically designed for high-capacity vessels to boost container turnover, while the automated yard cranes utilize intelligent systems to minimize human error.
The terminal is expected to strengthen Egypt's links to global shipping lanes and serve as a primary gateway for development in Upper Egypt and the Golden Triangle mining region. Covering 776,000 square meters, the terminal is part of the integrated Safaga-Qena-Abu Tartour logistics corridor. Managed by Abu Dhabi Ports Group, the facility is designed to handle 2 million containers and 7 million tons of cargo annually.
