Four Palestinians injured by Israeli gunfire in Kafr Qaddum

Four Palestinians were injured by gunfire and many others suffocated from teargas today as Israeli occupation forces attacked the weekly anti-occupation protest in the town of Kafr Qaddum, in the northern West Bank province of Qalqilia. Morad Shtewi, a local activist, told WAFA that Israeli occupation soldiers attacked the protesters with rubber-coated rounds and teargas, injuring at least four protesters and causing dozens of others to suffocate from gas inhalation. All of the injured were treated at the scene of the confrontations. For years, villagers from Kafr Qaddum and neighboring villages have been protesting every Friday against illegal Israeli settlements and to demand the Israeli occupation authorities to reopen the village’s main road, which has been sealed off by the occupation since 2002.

Palestinians rally in Tayibe in protest of home demolitions by Israel

Dozens of Palestinians rallied today in the Palestinian city of Tayibe in the 1948-occupied territories in protest of the Israeli policy of home demolitions targeting the native Palestinian population in the country. The protesters blocked Al-Jalama junction in the city to express their rejection of the Israeli policy, under which dozens of homes and structures in the city and elsewhere across the occupied territories are at risk of demolition by the Israeli authorities. The protesters chanted slogans and waved banners denouncing the unfair Israeli planning and construction policies which favor the Israeli Jewish population against the indigenous Palestinian community. Over the last two months, Israeli occupation authorities handed notifications to several households in the city demanding them to evacuate their homes. Arabs in today’s Israel are Palestinians who stayed on their land following the creation of the occupying state in 1948 and their descendants. They make up about 20 percent of the country’s nine million people. By law, their rights are equal to those of Jewish citizens. But in practice they suffer discrimination in employment, housing, policing and other essentials.

Foreign Ministry: Israel’s legalization of outposts is a coup against international legitimacy

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said today the far-right Israeli government’s legalization of a number of outposts in the occupied West Bank amounts to a coup against international legitimacy. In a press statement, the Foreign Ministry also condemned the provocative incursion by the extremist Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir into Jebal Sabih, where the illegal Evyatar outpost is located, and the racist statements he made while he was there. While on a provocative visit to the outpost, Ben-Gvir called for the government to immediately approve the Evyatar outpost. He also urged the government to launch a large-scale military attack in the West Bank, saying Israeli forces need to kill “thousands of terrorists.” ‘This escalation permanently closes the door to any opportunity to revive the peace process, and to implement the principle of the two-state solution. This is an official Israeli disregard for international legitimacy and its resolutions, international law, and Israel’s obligations as an occupying power,’ the Foreign Ministry said.

Turkey’s foreign ministry emphasizes legal obligation of Israel under international law to prevent all attacks against Palestinians

Turkey’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized once again the legal obligation of Israel under international law to prevent all attacks against the local Palestinian population, their places of worship, houses and property, and hate crimes, including hate against Islam, by Jewish settlers in the occupied Palestinian territories. It expressed deep concern over the increasing tension at the West Bank in recent days. ‘We condemn the vile attack on our Holy Book, the Quran, by a group of Jewish settlers that entered a mosque in the city of Urif, located in the Palestinian territories under Israeli occupation.’ ‘We expect the perpetrators of this unacceptable hate crime to be held accountable before justice at the earliest time,’ said the ministry in a press release. The release also condemned the attacks by settler groups in various parts of the West Bank and the killing of a Palestinian civilian by Israeli forces.

Speaking at the launch of the Sixth National Development Plan.

National Planning Commission Chief National Development Adviser, Sylvester Mbangu said Namibia did not make strides in changing the structure of its economy which consists of a large informal sector, resulting in the majority of the population being in vulnerability.

Speaking at the launch of the Sixth National Development Plan (NDP6) formulation process here yesterday, Mbangu said for the past 30 years the structure of the economy consists of a large informal sector where the majority of the population earn low wages with no formalised contracts.

This, he said should be of consideration in the NDP6 formulation covering the period of 2024/25 to 2030/31 financial years aimed at addressing Namibia’s ambitions and ultimately improving the standard of living of Namibians.

He explained that Namibian sectors that propel economic growth such as agriculture, mining and fishing amongst others are of low economic complexity and do not allow for much innovation, resulting in an uncompetitive economy.

“Our economy depends much on external sectors without export, we produce what we do not consume and that of which we produce we export it. So our economic growth is volatile because we experience external factors and these are the challenges we are experiencing,” he noted.

APP announces suspension of secretary general

The leadership of the All People’s Party (APP) announced the suspension of its Secretary General, Vincent Kanyetu, here on Thursday.

The party’s national chairperson, Linus Muchila, who made the announcement in a media release issued on Thursday, said Kanyetu’s suspension is effective as of Monday and will last for a period of 30 working days.

‘The reason for Kanyetu’s suspension along with all due processes that need to be followed hereafter, are explained in his letter of suspension. Thus, the party will not elaborate further on the charges until the disciplinary hearing is concluded,’ Muchila stated.

During the suspension, Kanyetu is restricted from all functions, activities and events of the APP and is not allowed to access the party’s members, resources or perform work for the party.

On his part, Kanyetu said he was going to respond to the suspension through a letter which he will share with this news agency in due course.

Muchila further clarified that, contrary to recent media reports, the party did not fail to repay a loan advanced to it from the acting president’s family trust and that the party made all payments, for which proof was provided.
