IMF expects Egypt’s economy to grow by 4% in FY 2022/2023

The International Monetary Fund expected Egypt’s economy will grow by 4% in the 2022/2023 current fiscal year (FY), 5.3% in the fiscal year 2023/2024 and 5.7% in the fiscal year 2024/2025.

In a statement released on Tuesday 10/1/2023, the IMF anticipated Egypt’s budget revenues to hit EGP 1.6 trillion in the fiscal year 2022/2023, EGP 1.9 trillion in the fiscal year 2023/2024 and EGP 2.2 trillion in the fiscal year 2024/2025.

The IMF stated the loan agreement reached with Egypt aims to stimulate economic growth led by the private sector, stabilize the foreign exchange market and maintain price stability to absorb external shocks.

In December 2022, Egypt has reached a 46-month staff-level agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) to receive a loan worth about $ 3 billion.

The IMF projected the annual core inflation rate to decrease by 7% by the fiscal year 2024/2025 and the State budget will achieve 2.1% surplus of GDP.

Rehabilitation, reintegration of ex-prisoners essential part of political rights: NCHR

President of the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) Ambassador Moushira Khattab said rehabilitating released inmates and reintegrating them into the community is an essential element of the civil and political rights included in Egypt’s National Human Rights Strategy.

Khattab was speaking during a discussion salon organized by the Coordination Committee of Party’s Youth Leaders and Politicians (CPYP) on Monday9/1/2023 to exchange views on rehabilitating the inmates on the lists of a presidential pardon committee and reintegrating them into the community.

As part of the council’s efforts to implement the strategy’s part concerned with civil and political rights, the council drafted a training guide about the rights of those deprived of their freedoms, Khattab said.

This manual tackles the rehabilitation and reintegration process that starts as of the first day of being admitted to any correctional facilities, Khattab noted, adding that another training guide had also been prepared to ensure that inmates are treated decently.

Based on a new philosophy adopted by the Interior Ministry, inmates serve their sentences without prejudice to their dignity, Khattab said, highlighting her council’s training cooperation with the ministry to uphold human rights and dignity of inmates.

CBE: Egypt’s annual headline inflation jumps 24.4% in December 2022

The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) announced that the annual headline inflation rate jumped 24.4 percent in December 2022, compared to 21.5 percent in November of the same year.

In a statement released on Tuesday 10/1/2023, the bank said the Consumer Price Index recorded a monthly rate of 2.6 percent in December 2022, compared to 0.2 percent in the same month in December 2021 and 2.7 percent in November 2022.

IMF lauds Egypt’s endorsement of State Ownership Policy Document

International Monetary Fund (IMF) Mission Chief for Egypt Ivanna Vladkova Hollar lauded the country’s endorsement of the State Ownership Policy Document.

In a press conference held at the fund’s premises in Washington on Tuesday 10/1/2023, Hollar said Egypt’s adoption of a flexible exchange-rate regime will contribute to stabilizing the foreign exchange market and preserving the country’s foreign reserves.

She also praised Egypt’s plans for increasing exports, maintaining foreign cash reserves, strengthening the local production and securing jobs.

Egypt: Launch of final phase of Sudanese political process positive development

Egypt asserted on Monday 9/1/2023 that the launch of the second and final phase of the Sudanese political process is an important and positive development.

In a statement by the Foreign Ministry, Egypt voiced its confidence that the Sudanese parties would reach a final and comprehensive political deal to achieve the Sudanese people’s aspirations.

It called on all regional and international parties to resume their development and economic aid to Sudan to address its challenges.

President El-Sisi Participates in National Alliance for Civil Development Work Conference

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi arrived on Monday 9/1/2023 at Al-Masah Capital to participate in the National Alliance for Civil Development Work Conference.

The Spokesman for the Presidency said that the National Alliance for Civil Development Work Conference is an important pillar in the development process in the country and supports social safety nets, in integration with the efforts of the government and the private sector.

The three sectors work to achieve community development for the benefit of citizens throughout the governorates of Egypt.

Civil society organizations have trained and qualified administrative and field staff capable of providing services swiftly and efficiently, in addition to having access to families and target groups and providing them with various community services.
