Abul Gheit, head of Libyan Presidential Council discuss developments of Libyan crisis

Arab League (AL) Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit received on Tuesday Head of Libyan Presidential Council Mohamed al Menfi where they discussed the latest developments in the Libyan crisis and efforts exerted to solve it.

Abul Gheit will hold an extended meeting with Menfi and his accompanying delegation in the presence of permanent AL representatives.

Higher education min. stresses importance of int’l cooperation to back State’s efforts in developing scientific research

Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister Ayman Ashour stressed the importance of international cooperation to back the State’s development efforts in the fields of education and scientific research.

In a statement on Tuesday 27/12/2022, the Higher Education Ministry underlined the ministry’s success in organizing the second edition of the Scientific Francophonie Week in October, under the sponsorship of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

The event was organized by the Ministry, in cooperation with the Francophone University Association (AUF: Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie), with the participation of a number of ministers, experts and universities’ presidents.

It also underlined the signing of the first manifesto on the Francophonie scientific diplomacy, which aims at enhancing cooperation among Francophonie states and organizing future relations among universities.

In September, the National Strategy for Intellectual Property was launched in line with President Sisi’s directives, it further noted.

Also, Cairo University, in cooperation with the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT), organized the scientific dialogue with the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Dr. Darren Tang.

The Higher Education Ministry also participated in the first Ministerial Conference of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) on Research and Innovation, which was organized by the French Scientific Research Ministry. The meeting adopted roadmaps on three priorities relative to research and innovation, namely health, renewable energy and climate change.

Amb. Hossam Zaki: AL backs all efforts to achieve unity, stability in Libya

Assistant Arab League Secretary General Hossam Zaki said the Arab League backs all efforts to achieve unity, stability and prosperity for the Libyan people.

This came in statements to reporters following Head of the Libyan Presidential Council Mohamed al-Menfi’s visit to AL premises and his meeting with AL Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit and the AL permanent delegates.

Amb. Zaki lauded genuine efforts exerted by the Libyan Presidential Council to heal the rift in Libya, underlining that the ideas that were put forward by the Council’s president during his meeting with the AL secretary general and the permanent delegates flow in one direction, which is how to settle the current controversial points that prevent achieving progress in the political situation, holding elections in Libya and ending the transitional period.

During their meeting, Abul Gheit promised the Head of the Libyan Presidential Council that the Arab League would stand up for all attempts to achieve unity, stability and prosperity for the people of Libya, Zaki further noted.

Sisi follows up on efforts to upgrade ports system nationwide

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Tuesday27/12 followed up on efforts to develop the ports system nationwide, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said.

The president issued directives for upgrading ports in an integrated manner to increase their capacity; in a way that enhances their ability to support the trade turnover, export and import, the spokesman added.

This can also consolidate Egypt’s geographical location as a regional and global logistical hub, Sisi noted.

He also asserted that the transport network is considered a supporting infrastructure for all state sectors.

Gov’t denies handling banned agricultural pesticides

The Cabinet’s media center has denied rumors on handling banned agricultural pesticides that cause poisoning of harvests in the market due to absence of supervision.

The Ministry of Agriculture described the news as void of truth, the center said in a statement on Tuesday 27/12/2022.

The ministry asserted that all pesticides sold in the markets are safe in accordance to quality standards and are not dangerous for public health or the harvests.

The media center urged the media means to be precise about the news they publish.

Sisi greets Cuba on anniversary of its revolution

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has sent a cable to Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel to greet him on the anniversary of the Cuban Revolution.

Sisi also delegated Presidential Secretary Ahmed Mohamed Reda to the Cuban Embassy in Cairo to extend greetings on the occasion.
