Sinopec Uncovers High-Yielding Shale Gas Reserve in Sichuan Basin.

Logo

Russia calls on Turkey to honor its obligations in Syria’s Idlib – diplomat

According to Alexander Lavrentyev, a possible extension of this mechanism is expected to be discussed in December

MOSCOW, SANA-Moscow calls on Ankara to meet all of its commitments concerning Syria’s Idlib, Russian presidential envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev said in an interview with TASS.

“By the way, as for the fulfillment of commitments, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, regrettably, says nothing about the implementation of the Turkish side’s obligations concerning Idlib, where units of illegal armed groups, such as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (a terrorist organization outlawed in Russia) have not been withdrawn behind the M44 highway. So, we hope that they will also honor all of their obligations,” he said.

Cross-border assistance mechanism

As for a possible extension of the cross-border assistance mechanism in Syria, the Russian side will be guided by Syria’s position on this matter, Lavrentyev noted.

Regrettably, we see that the obligations and guarantees given by Western nations in the context of the implementation of early recovery projects and the expansion of humanitarian aid to Syrian-controlled territories are stalling and are at a low point. And this is why the extension is needed.

Our position is well known but we are oriented toward the Syrian side on this matter as well. If it is interested in keeping this mechanism in place in the current difficult environment or in extending it for a certain period, we are ready to heed their opinion. If they think it is no longer welcome, naturally, we will block it,” he said.

According to the Russian diplomat, a possible extension of this mechanism is expected to be discussed in December. “We have some time. We have discussed this matter with our Syrian friends and decided to return to it in mid-December. I hope we will visit Damascus to speak about it,” he went on to say.

Ghana beats South Korea 3-2 to take top spot in Group H

Doha, SANA- A 10-minute spell in the first half by the African nation gave them a 2-0 lead courtesy of goals from Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu and Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus.

However, noisy celebrations by Ghana fans at half time were dampened by a South Korea comeback after the break.

Two stunning headers in three minutes from Cho Gue-sung, the top scorer in his domestic league, levelled the game after 61 minutes.

But the impressive Kudus, who had deftly headed in Jordan Ayew’s cross in the first half, added a final twist when he thumped in a third for Ghana to break South Korea’s hearts.

Chances continued to fall South Korea’s way as they searched for another equaliser but, despite 10 minutes of added time, Ghana held on.

There were emotional scenes at the final whistle as many South Korea players fell to the ground while manager Paulo Bento was sent off for arguing with English referee Anthony Taylor for not allowing a corner to be taken despite the 10 minutes having elapsed.

Egypt to launch polio vaccination campaign starting Dec. 11

Health and Population Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar announced on Monday that a national campaign to vaccinate children against polio for free across the country will run from December 11 to December 14.

The campaign aims to vaccinate all children — Egyptian and foreign — from one day to five year old living in the country, he added.

In 2006, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared Egypt free of polio, said the minister, noting that the last case of polio recorded in Egypt was in 2004.

For his part, Head of the Preventive Medicine Sector Amr Kandil noted that the campaign will cover all Egyptian governorates through fixed clinics and mobile teams on streets and near churches, mosques, and metro stations.

Comprising 90,000 medical personnel, the campaign will also go door to door in all governorates, villages, and remote areas, he added.
