Sobhy attends WADA’s meetings in Canada

Youth and Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhy asserted Egypt is pressing ahead with efforts and programs to promote the values of clean sport and fight against doping and the use of steroids by athletes through constant coordination between his ministry and the Egyptian Anti-Doping Agency.

The move is meant to implement specific programs and projects to attain the target in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)’s vision and action strategies, he added.

According to a press release by his ministry on Saturday 19/11/2022, Sobhy was speaking at Board Meetings of WADA’s Executive Office in Canada.

The meeting discussed a set of files concerning efforts to prevent doping in sport.

The Agency’s Foundation Board unanimously re-elected the President, Witold Banka, and Vice-President Yang Yang for a second and final three-year term in the top leadership roles of WADA.

The past three years under the leadership of Banka and Yang have been a period of significant advancement for WADA and the global anti-doping system.

Most notably, during this time, the Agency published its 2020-2024 Strategic Plan and carried out wide-ranging governance reform – both placing athletes at the center of the organization.

Also, in January 2021, WADA commenced implementation of the fourth version of the World Anti-Doping Code (Code) and its eight related International Standards that has strengthened the system, bringing further protection for athletes of the world.

PM inspects restoration project sites in Old Cairo

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli on Saturday 19/11/2022 made an inspection tour of the Fustat Hills Garden, Amr Ibn Al-Aas Mosque, and Ain al-Hayat neighborhood to stand on progress in the implementation of restoration projects in Old Cairo.

Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Development Assem El Gazzar, and head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction Mahmoud Nassar accompanied the premier during his tour, along with a host of senior officials from the state authorities concerned.

Citing President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives to follow up the work made in the three projects on a regular basis, Madbouli said the first one is of special importance, given its vital role in reviving the greatness of the first Islamic capital in all Africa.

He noted that the project aims to transform the area into an environmental, tourist, and cultural hotspot that reflects the greatness of the Egyptian civilization, highlighting the multifaceted added value of the project to the efforts to improve Greater Cairo.

Madbouli instructed that all the road networks and corridors around the project site be improved to accommodate expected heavy traffic of citizens and visitors, asserting also the importance of meeting the project timelines.

The largest of its kind across the Middle East, extending over 500 feddans, the Fustat Gardens were established in 641 CE by Arab commander Amr Ibn Al-Aas, founder of Egypt’s First Islamic Capital, Al-Fustat. According to local stories, the city was called Al-Fustat because the word ‘fustat’ meant ‘tent’, referring to Amr Ibn Al-Aas’ tent.

Agriculture Ministry: Egypt reclaims 5 million feddans

The Egyptian state is implementing mega projects in the agricultural sector to raise the cultivated areas to more than 9.7 million feddans, Spokesman for the Agriculture Ministry Mohamed Al Qersh said Friday 18/11/2022.

We aim to achieve food security, he added in televised statements.

The new agricultural projects have contributed to the availability of many crops due to increasing productivity to 18 ardebs per feddan (1 ardeb is equivalent to 150kg), the spokesman said.

The state is working to reclaim more than five million feddans, he added.

Emigration Minister sheds light on development efforts at Egyptian council meeting

Minister of State for Emigration Soha Gendi partook in a meeting with the Egyptian community in the United Kingdom at an invitation of Mohamed Abul Khair, Egypt’s consul general in London.

According to a press release on Saturday 19/11/2022, the minister reiterated that the Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs Ministry is keen to contact Egyptian expats all over the world and familiarize them with the political leadership’s efforts to achieve development in different fields and build human capacity in the new republic.

The ministry also works on removing any obstacles that may face Egyptian expats in coordination with the Egyptian ministries and institutions.

Gendi welcomed all proposals submitted by the expats, noting that such proposals and visions are part of the state’s efforts to realize the sustainable development goals.

The meeting was attended by a host of respective officials and key figures of the Egyptian community in Britain.
