Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed El Tayyeb will visit the Kazakh capital, Nur-Sultan, in mid-September, to inaugurate the Seventh Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions.

The event will address the role of leaders of the world in spiritual and social development of mankind in the post-COVID-19 pandemic period.

During the visit, the Grand Imam will meet with the Kazakh president, the Senate head, as well as local religious leaders, public figures and parliamentarians, to discuss ways to enhance joint Islamic cooperation and interfaith dialogue.

Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Hani Sweilam had talks on Friday with Qaliobiya Governor Abdel Hamid Haggan on the governorate’s water policies.

This came during the minister’s participation in celebrations of the governorate’s national day, which falls on August 30.

Sweilam inspected the HQ of the governorate’s central administration of water resources and irrigation and had talks with irrigation officials in the governorate to follow up on projects being implemented in Qaliobiya.

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat discussed on Friday with Lithuanian Minister of the Economy and Innovation Aušrinė Armonaitė means of promoting cooperation in digital transformation, developing technological solutions in the ICT field, and supporting start-ups working in the ICT domain.

Egyptian Ambassador to Denmark and non-resident Ambassador to Lithuania Karim Sherif and Lithuanian Ambassador in Cairo Artūras Gailiūnas attended the meeting.

Talaat said Egypt prioritizes digital transformation as a strategic goal to improve services provided to the citizens, pointing to the launch of nearly 150 government services on Digital Egypt.

Talaat referred to efforts to develop telecommunications infrastructure in Egypt and raise the internet network’s efficiency nationwide.

The minister underlined that the ministry takes part in the Decent Life initiative to develop the Egyptian villages and raise the standards of living of about 60 million citizens, in more than 4,500 villages, which was also reviewed. Through the initiative, the ministry establishes fiber-optic cable networks in targeted villages to provide high-speed Internet services to more than 3.5 million homes.

Meantime, Armonaitė welcomed the Lithuanian companies’ investments in Egypt in the field of digital transformation, calling for more coordination between the two countries to enhance cooperation.

Talaat also met with the chairman of INFOBALT Lithuania and a number of Lithuanian companies specialized in the communications and information technology industry to discuss promising ICT investment opportunities.

A delegation of the Planning Ministry visited on Friday poor villages in South Sinai governorate over three days to know their development needs.

During the visits, a series of meetings with the locals were held to follow up on their basic needs and projects currently established there.

Assistant Minister of Planning and Economic Development for Follow-up Affairs of the Sustainable Development Plan Gamil Helmy asserted the importance of field visits to monitor the actual needs of the residents of the villages, which are integrated with the databases provided by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, to determine indicators of the current development status in the villages to introduce an integrated development program for each village.

The ministerial delegation was accompanied by representatives of the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development and Ain Shams University.

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli approved the election of six new members of the Islamic Research Academy (IRA), Al Azhar said in a statement on Friday.

The list groups IRA Secretary General Nazeer Ayyad, former Dean of the College of Islamic and Arabic Studies Gad el-Rub Abdel Magid, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Sharia Mahmoud Hamid Othman, head of the Al Azhar institutes sector Salama Gomaa Daoud, former dean of the Faculty of Fundamentals of Religion Abdel Fattah Abdel Ghani el Awari, and former Al Azhar undersecretary Abbas Shoman.

The National Council for Women (NCW) thanked Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli for naming Marianne Amir Azer and Dr. Rascha Ragheb as members of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Financial Supervisory Authority (EFSA) .

In a statement released on Friday, NCW President Maya Morsi said she is pleased with the decision that reflects the State’s approach to enabling and supporting women.

EFSA is responsible for monitoring and supervising non-banking financial markets and instruments, including capital markets, futures exchanges, insurance activities, real estate finance, finance lease, factoring, consumer finance, securitization and movable guarantees.

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli on Friday evening left El Alamein International Airport heading for Tunisia to chair Egypt’s delegation to the Eighth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD8) on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

The premier is due to deliver a speech in the summit’s first general session on economic issues.

Madbouli is also slated to hold a number of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit.

Tunisia hosts TICAD8, which is held on Aug 27-28 and attended by a host of African heads of state and government.
