Shaarawi follows up with S. Sinai governor preparations for COP27 in Sharm

Local Development Minister Mahmoud Shaarawi met Monday with South Sinai Governor Khaled Fouda to follow up on the latest preparations for the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP27) to the UN Framework Climate Change Convention (UNFCCC), to be hosted by Egypt in Sharm el Sheikh in November.

Shaarawi asserted the Egyptian state is keen on making all required arrangements for receiving Egypt’s guests in Sharm el Sheikh city and developing the main structure of the Red Sea resort.

Shaarawi discussed with the governor implementation rates of a number of ongoing projects in the various sectors of roads, bridges and squares and the construction of a central park in Sharm el Sheikh.

The minister directed to accelerate the pace of carrying out the projects as per planned schedules.

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli is following the provision of all necessary support for COP27 through the higher committee concerned with arranging for the conference, which includes all ministries and national bodies in the state, according to him.

Shaarawi underscored the necessity of fulfilling all current projects aimed at turning Sharm el Sheikh into a green and eco-friendly city.

For his part, Fouda said he is always reviewing the latest developments of carrying out the current projects in the different sectors to prepare Sharm el Sheikh for playing host to the climate gathering.

Sisi: We look forward to deepening friendship with Germany

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has hailed long-standing Egyptian-German relations at all levels, expressing hope for cementing them especially in the economic and trade domains through magnifying the volume of German investments in Egypt.

During a meeting Berlin on Monday with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the president described Germany as one of the Egypt’s key partners in the European continent.

The Egyptian president pointed out to great chances available for German companies to operate in Egyptian markets especially in the infrastructure domains.

Egyptian Presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said the German president warmly welcomed president Sisi and hailed relations binding the two countries.

President Steinmeier praised national development projects being carried out in Egypt expressing his country’s support for Egypt’s development efforts through exchanging expertise and launching joint investment projects.

The German leader hailed Egypt’s pivotal role to achieve stability in the Middle East and Africa.

According to the spokesman, the meeting dealt with regional and international issues of mutual concern topped by the Ukrainian, Libyan and Yemeni crises as well as the Palestinian cause as the two sides saw eye to eye on the importance of reaching a just and durable solution to the Palestinian problem in line with international terms of references.

President Sisi: Cop27 conf. aims to fulfill climate pledges

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi affirmed that the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27), which is due to be held in Sharm El Sheikh next November, aims to act as a turning point in fulfilling climate pledges and turning them into a tangible reality on the ground.

It is important to focus climate efforts on the effective implementation of the Paris Agreement on climate change, added President Sisi during the inauguration of the high-level session of the Petersberg Climate Dialogue in Berlin.

Egypt will spare no effort to render the COP27 conference a success, affirmed President Sisi, noting that the Petersberg Climate Dialogue is considered a perfect opportunity for consultation on climate change-related issues.

Egypt has exerted tireless efforts to cope with the negative impacts of the climate change, he affirmed.

President Sisi, meanwhile, hailed the crucial role played by Germany to address climate change.

Climate change is having a growing impact on the African continent, hitting the most vulnerable, President Sisi said, underlining the importance of exerting efforts to enable the African countries to benefit from their wealth.

President Sisi went on to say that the climate change poses an existential threat.

He further stressed the need to reach clear visions to support the efforts of developing countries seeking to use clean energy.

Sisi invites German journalists to visit Egypt

While in Berlin, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi invited journalists in Germany who are interested in the human rights file to visit Egypt to get acquainted with the human rights conditions in the country on the ground and let German media outlets and the German public know more about this important issue.

 

“Allow me to invite you and anyone who is concerned to visit Egypt. Sisi meets German defense minister in Berlin

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met here on Monday German Federal Minister of Defense Christine Lambrecht, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said in a statement.

 

Sisi arrived in Berlin on Sunday, at the invitation of Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Olaf Scholz, to co-chair the 13th edition of the “Petersberg Climate Dialogue”, with the participation of representatives from 40 countries.

 

The Petersberg Dialogue offers an important platform for consultation and coordination on climate-related issues ahead of the upcoming global climate summit, COP27, to be hosted by Egypt in its Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh in November.

Mashat stresses importance of promoting cooperation with Afreximbank

International Cooperation Minister Rania Mashat had talks on Monday with Kanayo Awani, Executive Vice-President of the African Export–Import Bank (Afreximbank) on means of cooperating within the framework of preparing for a financing day due to be held during the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm El Sheikh in November.

 

 

 

The talks also tackled means of enhancing cooperation between Egypt and countries in the south in order to exchange development and knowledge experts.

 

 

This came within the context of ongoing cooperation between Egypt and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

 

 

The meeting was attended by Oluranti Doherty, the bank’s Director for Export Development.

 

 

Mashat called on the bank’s officials to stand on the development financing map in Egypt via the ministry’s website, noting that the current portfolio is dlrs 26 billion for funding 372 projects serving the Sustainable Development Goals.

 

 

She noted that about dlrs 11 billion was allocated for climate adaptation and alleviating the impact of climate change under the Goal 13.

 

 

Meanwhile, Awani underlined the importance of the strong relations between the bank and the Egyptian government.

 

 

She stressed keenness on enhancing cooperation with the Egyptian government within the framework of the preparations.

 

 

She also tackled the bank’s participation in the Egypt International Cooperation Forum (Egypt-ICF) – due to be held in September – which aims at coordinating African stances in the fields of supporting entrepreneurship ahead of the United Nations Climate Change (COP27).
