France wishes the success of the upcoming COP27, which will be held in Sharm El Sheikh next November, affirmed French Ambassador to Egypt Marc Baréty.

During his meeting with a host of journalists on the occasion of France National Day, which falls on July 14, the ambassador said that Egypt and France are holding regular consultations to prepare for the upcoming climate conference.

He pointed out to the recent visit of the French ambassador for climate change negotiations to Egypt, saying that the French official held a series of meetings with a number of Egyptian officials on preparations of the upcoming conference.

The ambassador, meanwhile, said that he met recently with Prime Minister Moustafa Mabdouli, during which they discussed a host of issues related to environment along with other issues of mutual interest.

France hopes that Egypt would succeed in attaining the conference’s goals, he further said.

Talking about enhancing aspects of cooperation between Egypt and France and increasing the volume of trade exchange, the ambassador said that Egypt and France are promoting economic cooperation, especially in spheres related to transport, water, energy and green hydrogen.

France is keen on promoting volume of trade exchange with Egypt, affirmed the ambassador, noting that total French exports to the Egyptian market stand at 2 billion euros, while the Egyptian exports to the French market amount to 800 million euros.

France needs to diversify its exports and needs also to encourage small-sized companies to do business in Egypt, he further said.

Responding to a question about cooperation between the two countries in combating illegal immigration, the ambassador pointed out to Egypt’s crucial role in confronting this phenomena, noting that his country is cooperating with Egypt in this sphere.

There is a 100-million-euro program with the European Union (EU) to support the Egyptian government in its efforts to confront illegal immigration, he added.

France stands fully ready to enhance cooperation with Egypt in this respect, he went on to say.

Regarding the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, the ambassador said that France seeks the resumption of negotiations between all sides concerned in order to reach to a satisfactory solution, especially that Egypt is concerned about its water security.

Talking about the government’s plan to withdraw from certain economic activities, the ambassador said that he welcomes such decisions, which were announced by the government in order to increase the private sector’s participation in the Egyptian market.

When asked about the Libyan file, the ambassador said that Egypt and France are seeking to attain economic stability in Libya, hailing Egypt’s efforts to achieve stability in the war-torn north African country.

Tourism and Antiquities Minister Khaled el Anani and Minister of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Amr Talaat had a plenary meeting on Tuesday to follow up on raising the internet speed in tourist facilities nationwide, particularly in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el Sheikh.

This measure is taken in preparation for the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 27) to the UNFCCC, set for Sharm el Sheikh in November.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the work that has been achieved on the ground on this score.

They also discussed means of surmounting obstacles facing some hotel facilities in connecting high-speed fiber-optic cables and coming up with the necessary solutions in this regard.

Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala el-Said said Decent Life Presidential Initiative “Haya Karima” is the main umbrella encompassing all national projects operating in the social and economic domains.

During her participation Tuesday in a session of the House of Representatives’ Social Solidarity, Family and Persons with Special Needs Committee, the minister said raising citizens’ awareness is a key pillar for all developmental efforts, adding that dialogue and active participation are important means down the road toward promoting awareness.

Said highlighted the importance of investing in human capital, especially in youth, with a view to honing their capabilities to help move forward the wheel of development to achieve aspirations and build a better future for the entire nation.

She cited a number of development initiatives involving youth, underlining the necessity of having youth contribute to adopting key decisions that help attain all the sustainable development goals in conformity with Egypt Vision 2030.

Acting Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar has directed to put all hospitals on high alert during Eidul Adha and ensure coordination between the ministry’s affiliated and university hospitals during the holy occasion.

The acting minister’s remarks came on Tuesday at the weekly meeting of the Health Ministry to follow up on health issues and discuss a number of important files, including precautionary health measures during the week-long Eidul Adha holiday.

Abdel Ghaffar said that medical teams have been formed nationwide to deal with any contingencies that may occur during the vacation.

He asserted that ambulances equipped with oxygen and medical supplies are spread across desert and coastal roads to serve all citizens everywhere.

He also gave directives to intensify campaigns and increase the number of nurses and medical staffers to ensure providing the best health services for citizens during this holy occasion.

EgyptAir urged all passengers to be at airports at least two hours ahead of their domestic flights and four hours prior to their international flights to ensure being offered better services.

In a statement issued on Tuesday 5/7/2022, the national carrier explained that such a call is made due to the increasing numbers of flights during this period which is full of summer vacations and national and religious holidays.

Passengers are also advised to keep their valuable and essential personal belongings in their carry-on baggage, the statement read.
