Minister of Transport Kamel el Wazir has held an expanded meeting with a delegation from Austrian steelmaker Voestalpine to put the final touches to the Middle East’s largest rail key workshop.

 

During the meeting, attended by Head of the Egyptian National Railways (ENR) authority Mustafa Abul Makarem and the authority’s officials, the transport minister reviewed a plan to establish a joint company for rail keys by the two sides with a view to achieving self-sufficiency in rail keys in the domestic market; given the increase in demand in line with the large number of projects carried out by the Ministry of Transport.

 

These include a project to modernize the current railways at a total length of 10,000 kilometers, another one on the high-speed electric railway network, ongoing Metro projects, and the light rail transit (LRT) system.

 

The move also aims to export surplus production to African and Middle Eastern countries.

 

The cooperation plan target to secure the production of 300 rail keys per year, and then reach 600 keys in the same period.

 

It also targets locally transferring modern technology in this sector.

The Health Ministry has started probing the launch of an initiative for the early detection of autism in children aged two and older, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said.

 

The minister was speaking during a virtual conference held on Thursday 28/4/2022 by the World Health Organization (WHO) main office in Geneva on caregiver skills training for families of children with developmental delays or disabilities.

 

Abdel Ghaffar affirmed the importance attached by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to people of determination.

 

He said that about 2.7% of children aged above five are having difficulties in understanding and communication, adding that Egypt has leading experiments in the early detection and care programs dedicated to children with developmental delays or disabilities.

 

Abdel Ghaffar pointed out to the presidential initiative launched for early detection and treatment of hearing loss and impairment for newborns, which he said comes as part of the State’s efforts to reduce development issues resulted from hearing disabilities.

 

The limited number of people qualified to deal with various degrees of children’s autism represents one of the main obstacles facing this program, a fact that led to considering training non-specialized groups to help give needed medical and psychological care to children with autism in line with training the children’s families, he said.

Planning Minister Hala Saeed stressed that the second stage of the Egyptian economic reform program includes institutional reform measures in some sectors, topped by the energy sector.

 

The program also included several legislative and institutional reforms as well as enacting several laws that aim to facilitate measures for establishing projects and incentivize the private sector to take part in implementing ventures, Saeed said.

 

She made the remarks on Thursday 28/4/2022 while reviewing the Egyptian economic reform experiment at the Harvard Ministerial Leadership Program in Boston.

 

She reviewed the efforts exerted by Egypt to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals under Egypt Vision 2030, noting that the state is proceeding with the successful economic and social reform program which started in 2016.

 

She tackled the initiatives being implemented by the Egyptian state to develop the health sector, noting that about EGP 270 billion were spent on the health sector in the period from (2018/2019-2020/2021) at a 70 percent rise in comparison with the previous three years.

 

She referred to the initiatives of 100 million health, detecting malnutrition among students and detecting chronic diseases.

 

She highlighted the importance of balancing between growing population and available resources.

International Cooperation Minister Rania al Mashat has affirmed the depth of the strategic relationships between Egypt and the US.

 

The Egyptian-US ties, which have been rooted for over four decades, resulted in signing pacts and development financing grant agreements worth more than dlrs 30 billion, added the minister during her meeting with USAID administrator Samantha Power.

 

Mashat was in Washington to attend the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group (WBG).

 

Such pacts and development financing grant agreements contributed to supporting development efforts in priority areas, added the minister.

 

Egypt signed seven development financing grant agreements with the US, through the USAID, worth dlrs 130 million during 2021, she further noted.

 

Highlighting the decades-long economic partnership between Egypt and the US, the minister said the

volume of trade exchange between the two countries amounted to more than dlrs 8 billion last year.

 

Mashat, meanwhile, pointed out to the government’s efforts to adopt a package of policies and executive programs that are aimed at improving the investment climate for the private sector and promoting its partnership in development spheres, especially in the climate action.

 

The government adopted in 2016 an ambitious economic reform program, a matter which gave Egypt further impetus to deal with the Covid-19, said the minister.

 

The minister also pointed out to the Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT), which is implemented with the USAID and aims at encouraging and facilitating participation by private enterprise to the maximum extent in the development process.

 

Talking about the “Decent Life” presidential initiative, the minister said that initiative is meant to improve the living conditions of about 58 million people in 4,000 villages nationwide.

 

Mashat, meanwhile, said that her ministry secured a total of dlrs 4.7 billion in development financing in 2020 and 2021 with the private sector.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi issued a decree approving a grant deal between the Egyptian Ministry of International Cooperation and the Swedish International Development and Cooperation Agency (SIDA).

 

Under the deal signed in 2021, Egypt will get 10 million Swedish kronas in grant to improve the efficiency of electricity networks.

 

The decree was published in the official gazette on Thursday.

Egypt asserts its keenness on boosting strategic ties with the US and enhancing relations between the two peoples, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Hafez tweeted on Wednesday.

 

The tweet came on the centennial of establishing diplomatic ties between Egypt and the US.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has directed the government to give priority to providing production requirements for various factories in a way that helps make products easily available to citizens, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said.

 

Madbouli made the remarks during a meeting he held on Thursday 28/4/2022 to follow up on coordination between the ministries concerned and the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) to facilitate procedures for providing production requirements for industries.

 

The meeting was attended by Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait, Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea, Deputy Minister of Planning Ahmed Kamali, CBE’s Deputy Governor Gamal Negm, Secretary General of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce (FEDCOC) Alaa Ezz, along with other senior officials.

 

CBE’s deputy governor said coordination is underway between the central bank and the government with a view to speeding up procedures related to providing production requirements and releasing those delayed at customs.
