Irrigation minister follows up on Nile water rates in governorates

Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Mohamed Abdel Atti discussed during a meeting with members of the Permanent Committee for Regulating the Nile River Revenue Nile water rates in the various governorates, along with optimal water management mechanisms.

In statements Sunday, the minister said the ministry is exerting strenuous efforts to guarantee providing all necessary water needs for all sectors, via incorporating the
highest efficiency techniques, that would in turn help achieve sustainable development goals.

All efforts are part of the ministry’s drives
to dynamically manage the water system, through constantly standing on rates
of rainfall over the headwater streams throughout the year.

Abdel Atti issued his directives to keep the highest state of readiness at all the ministry’s affiliates to handle water resources during the period of maximum needs and ensure meeting water demand for all beneficiaries.

He also stood on ongoing efforts meant to clean canals and sanitize drains, as well as
increase work capacity of water lifting stations and emergency units at the various governorates in preparation for the upcoming agricultural season.

US dollar exchange rate up

The exchange rate of the US dollar against the Egyptian pound increased at the beginning of Sunday’s trading at Egypt’s major banks, after the Central Bank of Egypt rose the interest rate by 1% in March.

At the National Bank of Egypt (NBE) and Banque Misr, the dollar rate was up five piasters, recording EGP 18.52 for buying and EGP 18.58 for selling.

At the Commercial International Bank (CIB), the dollar exchange rate rose to reach EGP 18.53 for buying and EGP 18.60 for selling.

As for main currencies’ exchange rates, world capital markets and banks are being affected on the back of repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, with euro prices increasing for selling and buying.

The euro price registered EGP 19.94 for buying and EGP 20.16 for selling at Banque Misr and the NBE.

At the CIB, the euro price was EGP 20.05 for buying and EGP 20.34 for selling.

The pound sterling at the NBE and Banque Misr registered EGP 23.77 for buying and EGP 24.21 for selling.

At the CIB, the pound sterling exchange rate amounted to EGP 24.16 for buying and EGP 24.33 for selling.

The Saudi riyal price stood at EGP 4.93 for buying and EGP 4.95 for selling at Banque Misr and the NBE.
