Egypt allocated areas for producing green hydrogen at SCZone – PM

Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli said Sunday that Egypt has allocated areas for producing green hydrogen in Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone).

Madbouli’s comments came during his reception to Executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal Frans Timmermans, where they discussed means of boosting cooperation between Egypt and EU in the field of the green energy, with the presence of Environment Minister Yasmine Fuoad.

The premier stressed Egypt’s keenness on reinforcing its partnership with EU, especially in the field of energy, noting that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi is paying special focus on such key sector.

Egypt is working on upgrading its energy strategy to include the green hydrogen as a source of power, as it placed additional investment incentives for producing the green hydrogen.

For his side, Timmermans said the consequences of the Ukrainian crisis pushed the EU countries to expedite the pace of transition into the renewable energy and diverse the sources of the green energy.

Egypt, EU discuss agricultural, employment cooperation

Egypt’s Ambassador in Brussels Badr Abdel Aati held a meeting Monday with the director of the office of the EU Commissioner for Agriculture.

 

The meeting tackled means of promoting cooperation between Egypt and the EU in the field of agriculture and improving capabilities to deal with food crises, in addition to using technology to develop agricultural systems, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release on its Facebook page.

 

The talks also tackled ways of overcoming the negative impact of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict on the global and Egyptian economy, including allocating 100 million euros by the EU to support Egypt in the field of food security.

 

Abdel Aati reviewed an ambitious plan adopted by Egypt to develop its agricultural sector and address the issues of food and water security.

 

The ambassador also held a meeting with the director of the office of the EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion.

 

The meeting tackled means of boosting cooperation between Egypt and the EU in the fields of capacity-building and technical and vocational education to prepare skilled and trained workers.

 

Abdel Aati highlighted Egypt’s efforts to promote social rights, improve the living standards of citizens and provide basic services for them.

 

He also reviewed several initiatives launched by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to improve the living conditions Egypt, including the Takaful and Karama program.

Makram: Azhar, Church main pillars for Egypt’s integration, unity

Minister of State for Emigration Nabila Makram hailed on Sunday Al Azhar as a strong edifice that represents a main pillar with the Church for integration and unity in Egypt.

Makram was speaking during a symposium, held by the Association of Islamic Universities, on Al-Azhar’s role in developing the Islamic education in the Asian countries in the presence of Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa, Head of the Coptic Orthodox Cultural Center Anba Jeremiah, Grand Mufti Shawki Allam, and President of Al-Azhar University Mohamed El Mahrsawy.

Makram valued cooperation between Al-Azhar and the Orthodox Church, saying Grand Imam Ahmed El Tayyeb and Pope Tawadros II are keen on receiving sons of the second and third generations of Egyptian expats, expressing her happiness for joining the board of trustees of the Egyptian Family House to consolidate tolerance.

The minister pointed out that the Emigration Ministry would launch the sixth edition of Egypt Can by Industry conference.

She pointed to the Awqaf Ministry’s supportive efforts to her ministry in the governorates which see high levels of illegal immigration and providing Egyptians abroad with books to combat extremism.

She also referred to the cooperation between her ministry and Al-Azhar in the Good Offspring initiative and the pioneering role of its observatory against extremism.

Azhar University president praises army’s sacrifices to liberate homeland

President of Al Azhar University Mohamed el-Mahrasawi said that the brave soldiers of Egypt set a wonderful model of challenge and determination to liberate the homeland.

The anniversary of the 10th of Ramadan highlights the army’s sacrifices, he added during a seminar Sunday.

The Egyptian army will remain a fortress against anyone who plots to undermine Egypt or its capabilities, Mahrasawi said.

He stressed the strength of national fabric and cohesion in face of attempts of terrorist groups to spread violence, sabotage and sectarian strife, he added.

Fouad confers with European Green Deal official on cooperation over COP27

Minister of Environment Yasmin Fouad has praised the European Union’s decision to place the climate action agenda on top of its priorities especially with the need to accelerate all executive measures to counter the impact of climate change on humans.

The minister’s remarks were made during her meeting with European Commission Executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal Frans Timmermans and his accompanying delegation, currently visiting here.

EU Ambassador in Cairo Christian Berger attended the meeting.

The meeting took up mechanisms for boosting joint cooperation to support the roadmap for hosting the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 27) to the UNFCCC that will take place in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, from November 7 to 18.

During the meeting, Fouad asserted that the conference will seek to guarantee achieving more progress after the outcome of COP26 especially the financial pledges made by the developed countries to help the developing ones finance climate programs.

She said COP27 is considered a conference for implementation after the issuing of a book titled “The Implementation of Paris Agreement on Climate Change”, adding that Sharm El Sheikh conference will display success stores and pioneering projects which have been implemented as regards climate action worldwide.

The EU Green Deal official, for his part, praised the role of the Egyptian minister during COP26 held in Glasgow and voiced readiness to cooperate with Egypt in preparing for COP27.

He also made it clear that the EU is working on a plan to diversify the sources of energy and accelerate the transformation to renewable energy sources such as solar and wind energies.

FM, EU Commission VP tackle UN COP27 preparations

Foreign Minister and President-Designate of the incoming United Nations Conference of Parties on Climate Change Sameh Shoukry met on Sunday with Vice-President of the European Commission and its climate envoy Frans Timmermans and his accompanying delegation.

The two sides discussed preparations for the UN COP27, mechanisms of implementing the European Green Deal and supporting the climate transformation process in Africa.

They tackled ways of boosting regional and bilateral cooperation between Egypt and the European Union on key issues for accelerating the transition to sustainable, resilient, and zero-emissions economies as well as agreeing on sparing no effort to achieve ambitious goals in the UN COP27 building on what was achieved at the Glasgow conference to keep the 1.5°C target within reach and support developing countries in adapting to the effects of climate change.

Both agreed on pushing for joint action to encourage the mobilization of resources for climate finance for developing countries, particularly African countries, including accelerating the fulfillment of the $100 billion pledge and adapting to the adverse effects of climate change.

They highlighted the importance and centrality of the role of interest groups, including the private sector, civil society and youth.

EU anew stressed its keenness to bolster cooperation with Egypt in the fields of liquified gas and supplies of green hydrogen and develop the Mediterranean Green Hydrogen Partnership.

Egypt FM, EU envoy confer on national efforts to boost human rights

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met Sunday with Eamon Gilmore, the EU Special Representative for Human Rights, to discuss national efforts to boost human rights and implement a national strategy to that effect.

 

The meeting was held in the framework of dialogue and consultation with the European partner, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez.

Sisi briefed on efforts of renovating shrines of Ahl al-Bayt

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed the Armed Forces Engineering Authority to completely develop all shrines of Ahl al-Bayt (the family members of the Prophet Muhammad) with its internal halls and their architectural decorations as well as revamping their leading roads, squares and entrances.

 

Sisi’s directives came during his meeting with Presidential Advisor for Urban Planning Major General Amir Sayed Ahmed, Head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority Major General Ihab Al-Far, Director of Armed Forces Engineering Authority Advisory Office Major General Ashraf El-Araby, Assistant Director for road designs in the Armed Forces Engineering Authority Brigadier General Abdel Aziz El-Feki, Director of Ibdaa Marble and Granite Factory Dr. Tariq Al-Khudairi, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said.

 

The meeting reviewed efforts to restore and renovate the shrines of Ahl al-Bayt, especially those of Sayyidna Al-Hussein, Sayeda Nafisa and Sayeda Zeinab.

 

The work progress of a number of facilities in the New Administrative Capital was also reviewed, especially the engineering designs and artwork in Dar Al-Quran and the collectibles and event halls in the Misr Mosque.

 

He was also briefed on progress made in the new roads and axes projects across the country.

 

He directed the attendees to expand the axes and main roads to achieve the highest rates of traffic flow in line with the highest standards of security and safety.
