SCZone Signs $65.5M Agreements with Chinese Firms to Boost Textile Industry

Hangzhou: Waleid Gamal El-Dien, Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), signed three industrial contracts with leading Chinese textile companies during a promotional tour in Hangzhou, China. The deals, worth a combined $65.5 million, include two agreements with Shandong SUNSHELL Garment Group and one with Zhejiang Charming for Dyeing and Finishing Co. The projects will be established in the Qantara West Industrial Zone and are expected to create around 6,000 direct jobs, with 90% of output destined for export markets.According to State Information Service Egypt, the SUNSHELL agreements cover the construction of a high-quality garment factory producing over 11 million items annually, and an advanced textile complex with a production capacity exceeding 2 million tons of fabric per year. Zhejiang Charming will build a fully integrated fabric manufacturing facility on 100,000 square meters, specializing in eco-friendly knitted textiles for global markets.These new projects raise the total number of investments in Qantara West to 31, with cumulative investments nearing $800 million and over 44,000 job opportunities created. SCZone officials emphasized that the contracts highlight growing Chinese investor confidence and support Egypt's strategy to develop a competitive, export-driven textile and garment hub.
