New York: The State of Qatar has emphasized its unwavering stance on the Palestinian cause, advocating for the sovereignty of the Palestinian people over their natural resources and their right to establish an independent state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
According to Union of OIC News Agencies, this declaration was made by Mr. Talal Abdul Aziz Al-Naama, Second Secretary of the Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations. He delivered Qatar's statement before the Second Committee of the United Nations General Assembly during its eightieth session, addressing Item (60) related to the permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people in the occupied territories and of the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan over their natural resources, at the United Nations headquarters.
Al-Naama highlighted the ongoing Israeli military occupation and the systematic human rights violations by Israeli forces and settlers. He emphasized that these actions, alongside a discriminatory regime, continue to undermine the fundamental rights of Palestinians, including their right to self-determination.
He further noted that Qatar has provided substantial support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), amounting to approximately $49 million. Additionally, Qatar has renewed a multi-year support agreement for 2025-2026, worth $20 million, to aid the agency in fulfilling its mandate amid persistent funding shortages.
In his statement, Al-Naama reiterated Qatar's ongoing humanitarian efforts, in collaboration with Egypt, Turkey, and the United States, to mediate a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and deliver crucial aid to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians.
