Cairo: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly stressed on Sunday, September 14th, 2025, the importance of closely following up on Egypt's seawater desalination program, noting that the government is moving ahead with the implementation of more projects and the construction of additional plants using the latest technologies to meet the country's growing developmental and industrial needs for clean water.
According to State Information Service Egypt, this statement was made during a meeting at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital to review the executive plan for expanding seawater desalination projects. The meeting was attended by Housing, Public Utilities and Urban Communities Minister Sherif El-Sherbini, Deputy Housing Minister Sayed Ismail, head of the Drinking Water and Wastewater Regulatory Agency Mohamed Hassan, senior officials from Arab Contractors, and other stakeholders.
Sherbini outlined the housing ministry's efforts to maximize the use of alternative water resources through desalination, with a special focus on coastal areas. He presented an integrated plan covering plants scheduled for completion by 2050, alongside urgent projects to meet demand through 2030. Furthermore, he emphasized the ministry's drive to apply advanced technologies, in cooperation with local and international private sector partners, to localize desalination-related industries and reduce production costs.
The minister also reviewed ongoing and completed projects in governorates including the Red Sea, Matrouh, and South Sinai, emphasizing the importance of expediting their completion and operation.
