Cairo: Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam reviewed with senior ministry officials the readiness of pumping stations and main barrages ahead of the upcoming peak water demand period.
According to State Information Service Egypt, during the meeting, participants reviewed the operation of main barrage gates and their associated locks, as well as their electricity supply requirements and diesel generators to ensure continuous operation under all hydraulic conditions. The meeting also assessed the status of pumping stations affiliated with the Mechanical and Electrical Department and the Drainage Authority nationwide. Measures were discussed to guarantee their uninterrupted operation, including securing a stable power supply and providing backup diesel generators for use in case of electricity outages.
Sewilam emphasized the necessity of ensuring the continuous operation of main barrages and all stations located along waterways. He also highlighted the need for effective response scenarios to address any sudden power disruptions. The minister underscored the importance of periodic inspection tours conducted by officials from the Irrigation Authority, the Drainage Authority, and the Mechanical and Electrical Department at all stations, particularly at critical points, to ensure operational continuity and readiness to handle emergencies as the peak water demand season approaches.
