Cairo: The Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) of the Egyptian Cabinet has launched a series of videos on its social media platforms featuring interviews conducted aboard the Energos Eskimo vessel, which is currently docked at the SUMED Port in Ain Sokhna. These videos aim to underscore the Egyptian government's recent initiatives to secure a sufficient supply of natural gas during the current summer season, specifically for power stations.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Hisham Kamel, Assistant for Technical Affairs and Supervisor of Projects at the GASCO company, stated that the Egyptian state has succeeded in establishing robust infrastructure at the SUMED and Sonker ports in Ain Sokhna over the past six months. This infrastructure is crucial for accommodating Floating Storage Regasification Units (FSRUs), which are specialized vessels equipped to convert imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) back into its gaseous form. This gas is then fed into the national grid for use in homes, factories, and power plants.
Kamel further elaborated that this accomplishment was the result of detailed studies conducted by the company in the summer of 2024. The studies indicated the necessity for alternative solutions to address the anticipated gas demand during the summer of 2025. These solutions include the deployment of four FSRU vessels, along with a fifth ship that will be shared between Egypt and Jordan to meet regional energy requirements.
