GPC Announces New Oil Discovery in Abu Sennan

Cairo: Egypt’s General Petroleum Company (GPC) has announced a new oil discovery, GPR-1X, in the mature fields of the Abu Sennan area in the Western Desert, the Egyptian Petroleum Ministry revealed. Initial results indicate that the well is producing up to 1,400 barrels of crude oil per day and approximately 1 million cubic feet of gas per day from the Bahariya layer. This discovery also adds 2 million recoverable barrels to the reserves.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the discovery is part of the first pillar of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ strategy to enhance local production and maximize the potential of mature fields. GPC Chairman Mohamed Abdel Meguid stated that the well is currently undergoing testing at the production station. He also noted that promising oil indicators were observed through electric logging in the Abu Rawash G and B layers.

This marks the second discovery in the area over the past three months. The previous discovery, GPS, was made in March using a
rtificial intelligence technologies developed by GPC’s team.
