FM Stresses Importance of Implementing Sharm El Sheikh Peace Agreement and Advancing Trump Plan

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty engaged in a phone call with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper to discuss the consolidation of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Agreement and the progression to the second phase of US President Donald Trump's peace plan. The dialogue also focused on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing key regional issues, including developments in Palestine and Sudan.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the conversation highlighted Egypt's continuous efforts with regional and international partners to implement the agreement, alleviate humanitarian suffering, and support the establishment of a Palestinian state. Abdelatty expressed gratitude for the UK's recognition of Palestine and informed Cooper about Egypt's plans to host the International Conference on Reconstruction and Early Recovery in Gaza, urging the UK to participate actively.

Regarding Sudan, Abdelatty condemned the atrocities occurring in El Fasher and emphasized the necessity of opening humanitarian corridors. He reiterated Egypt's support for Sudan's unity, stability, and institutions, while noting ongoing efforts within the Quad mechanism to achieve a comprehensive ceasefire and coordinate international humanitarian assistance.

The ministers also acknowledged the robust state of Egypt-UK relations and expressed a shared commitment to expanding cooperation. They discussed the potential for high-level visits and the enhancement of economic, trade, and investment ties between the two nations.
