FM Engages with US Officials on Middle East Tensions

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty engaged in crucial discussions with senior US officials regarding the escalating tensions in the Middle East. In two separate phone conversations held on Sunday, June 15, 2025, Abdelatty spoke with US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to US President Donald Trump on Arab and Middle East Affairs and Senior Advisor for Africa.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussions with Witkoff focused on the increasing military confrontation between Israel and Iran, which threatens regional security and stability. Abdelatty emphasized the necessity of halting the military escalation and adopting political and diplomatic solutions to prevent further violence in the region. He stressed the importance of achieving a ceasefire and resuming negotiations between the US and Iran concerning the Iranian nuclear program.

In a separate conversation with Massad Boulos, Abdelatty addressed the recent developments in Sudan, Libya, and the Great Lakes region. Both parties highlighted the importance of strengthening Egyptian-US coordination to identify political solutions to these crises. They underscored the need to support the national institutions of the affected countries while respecting their sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
