Egyptian Companies Eye Development Projects in Mali: FM


Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty emphasized that Egyptian companies, known for their expertise in infrastructure, energy, transport, and construction, are eager to participate in Mali’s development projects. The remarks were made during a phone conversation with Malian Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Foreign Ministry spokesman Tamim Khallaf stated that Abdelatty highlighted the importance of leveraging the significant progress in bilateral relations over recent years to enhance cooperation in political, economic, and development spheres. Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s interest in fortifying economic ties with Mali, especially in the areas of investment and trade.

The discussion also touched on security and development challenges in the Sahel region. Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s unwavering support for the Malian government’s initiatives to combat terrorism and extremism and to reestablish security and stability.
He stressed the necessity of a holistic approach that integrates security, development, and intellectual dimensions.

Abdelatty acknowledged the influence of Egyptian educational and religious institutions, notably Al-Azhar, in fostering stability and promoting moderate thought. He also mentioned the contributions through grants and programs by the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development and the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding.

Both ministers affirmed their dedication to maintaining coordination and consultation on regional and international issues of mutual concern. They also committed to collaborative efforts to bolster security, stability, and sustainable development in the Sahel and West Africa, aiming to benefit both nations and contribute to stability across the African continent.
