Cairo: The Arab Republic of Egypt welcomes the announcement by Canadian Prime Minister, Mark Carney, and Maltese Prime Minister, Robert Abela, of their countries' intention to recognize the State of Palestine.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Egypt affirms that this growing international momentum toward the recognition of the Palestinian state represents a historic step that contributes to the realization of a Palestinian state-an aspiration long advocated by Egypt and Arab states in pursuit of restoring the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
Egypt renews its call on all countries that have not recognized the State of Palestine yet to swiftly take this step to stand on the right side of history. This will contribute to the implementation of the two-state solution and ensure the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
