Egypt, AU discuss boosting cooperation in air transport

Civil Aviation Minister Mohamed Abbas on Thursday 8/9/2022 discussed in a meeting with African Union (AU) Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy Amani Abou Zeid means of fostering cooperation between Egypt and the African bloc in air transport.

Abbas asserted the importance of joint coordination with the AU, which plays a main role in unifying visions and strengthening integration among African countries in different fields, notably the civil aviation industry.

The civil aviation minister pointed to the political leadership’s directives on the necessity of cementing cooperation between Egypt and all African states, with a view to bringing about African integration.

He noted the Civil Aviation Ministry is keen on providing all technical, human and training expertise to African countries, in cooperation with the AU, to enhance the infrastructure of the African civil aviation industry.

On her part, the AU Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy said the Egyptian Civil Aviation Ministry plays a key role in bolstering cooperation among African countries in the air transport sector, which could contribute to attaining economic integration among African states and luring further investments to Africa.

The two sides also probed a Civil Aviation Ministry’s strategy on the usage of clean and renewable energy sources in the aviation industry to cut emissions and preserve the environment, especially as Egypt is set to host the United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP27, which is scheduled for November in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh.

The meeting tackled the main part played by the air transport in reviving tourism and trade, as well as facilitating the movement of individuals within Africa and beyond.
