Egypt and Estonia Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Relations

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty emphasized the importance of building on the current momentum to advance cooperation with Estonia across various fields, particularly in trade and investment. This came during the foreign minister's meeting on Monday, April 6th, 2026, with Estonian parliament speaker Lauri Hussar as part of his official visit to Egypt, which aims to enhance prospects for bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting touched on the development witnessed by Egyptian-Estonian relations in recent years and the shared desire to elevate the level of bilateral cooperation. Abdelatty highlighted the promising investment opportunities available within the Egyptian economy. He underscored the importance of intensifying parliamentary cooperation through the exchange of visits and legislative expertise and revitalizing the role of parliamentary friendship associations. Additionally, he emphasized strengthening cultural and educational dialogue, expanding academic exchange and capacity-building, especially in the fields of cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and digital governance, in addition to boosting tourism cooperation.

Abdelatty also reviewed regional developments and efforts aimed at de-escalation and calming tensions amid the sensitive stage the region is going through. He underscored the need to prioritize wisdom, work toward defusing tensions, and prevent further escalation. The meeting also covered a number of regional issues, foremost among them the Palestinian cause, as well as conditions in Sudan, Lebanon, and Libya, in addition to Egypt's water security file.

For his part, the Estonian parliament speaker expressed his appreciation for Egypt's constructive role in supporting security and stability in the region, especially amid the complex crises it is witnessing. He commended Egypt's ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions and contain crises, as well as its persistent pursuit of strengthening international peace and security.
