Egypt and EIB Explore Enhanced Collaboration on Water and Sanitation Initiatives

Cairo: Egypt’s Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Sherif El Sherbiny met with European Investment Bank (EIB) Vice President Gelsomina Vigliotti to discuss ongoing and future collaboration in drinking water and sanitation projects.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting focused on the progress of a technical support project for sludge management, which is currently overseen by the ministry’s Project Management Unit. This project, funded by a pound 2 million grant, seeks to protect public health, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, support climate action, and improve the agricultural sector through the safe reuse of treated sludge.

El Sherbiny emphasized the robust partnership between the ministry and the EIB, highlighting that their cooperative efforts have resulted in a project portfolio valued at pound 700 million. Vigliotti conveyed the EIB’s interest in further supporting projects that align with the ministry’s strategic plans in the near future.
