Cabinet issues report highlighting rumors about govt performance in 2022

The Cabinet’s media center has issued a report highlighting rumors circulated during 2022 at the government level.

Rumors about the economy made up 23.6 percent of the false news that were meant to create instability and shake public confidence in state efforts and its reform and development plans, according to the report that was released earlier on Sunday.

It added that unfounded stories about supply commodities reached about 21.3 percent, followed by the education sector with 19.1 percent and the health sector with 11 percent.

False news about the agriculture and social protection departments made up 4.9 percent each, the report said.

Rumors about the energy and administrative reform sectors made up 4 percent and 3.1 percent, respectively, according to the report.

It made it clear that false news about both the tourism and housing departments reached 3.6 percent each.

Unverified information about other sectors made up 0.9 percent, the report added.

The report stressed that the state is still fighting a “battle of awareness”, noting that refuting rumors is in the heart of this battle.

Rumors are attempts to falsify facts, create a state of instability and shake confidence in reform and development plans, it said.
