Education minister lauds WB support for development plans in Egypt

Education Minister Reda Hegazy has stressed the importance of cooperation with the World Bank (WB) to upgrade the education system in Egypt.

In a meeting with a WB delegation Wednesday, Hegazy praised the role played by the Bank to support development plans in Egypt, especially where pre-university education is concerned.

Indeed, the WB is one of Egypt’s most important development partners, the minister noted.

The meeting took up ways to boost cooperation in the field of education.

Hegazy said his Ministry is still working to complete the education development process in line with an approach that is adopted by the State.

Hegazy posted the WB delegation on measures taken to improve the education system over the previous stage.

He also reviewed efforts to enhance vocational skills ahead of commencing training courses for teachers and supervisors.

Justice min outlines Egypt’s major human rights achievements before UN

The Egyptian State exerted strenuous efforts through which it has made major human rights achievements, in line with the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), Minister of Justice Amr Marawan said.

Despite these achievements, there are still major challenges ahead, Marawan added in his opening remarks during the first meeting of the UN Human Rights Committee concerned with monitoring compliance of state parties with the ICCPR, which tackled Egypt’s fifth report on human rights, that was submitted to the committee in November 2019.

He said that the advancement and promotion of human rights are an ongoing and cumulative process, reaffirming Egypt’s determination to go forward along the road to reform.

Marwan briefed attendees on Egypt’s efforts to advance human rights in various areas, topped by achieving gender equality in all the civil and political rights enshrined in the ICCPR, providing necessary care and support to inmates, protecting women against all forms of violence, and combating human trafficking and corruption.

He noted that the country had also made remarkable progress in ensuring religious freedoms, taking care of foreign residents, and promoting civil society organizations and NGOs.

Marwan is leading a high-level delegation in Geneva, Switzerland, to review the fifth periodical report submitted to the UN Human Rights Committee (UNHRC) during meetings on Tuesday28/2/2023 and Wednesday 1/3/2023.

The delegation includes representatives from the foreign and justice ministries, the Public Prosecution, along with a host of senior officials from relevant bodies, including President of the National Council for Women (NCW) Maya Morsy and Chairperson of the National Coordinating Committee for Combating and Preventing Illegal Migration and Trafficking in Persons Naela Gabr.

Military production min. inspects Factory 63

State Minister for Military Production Mohamed Salaheldin Mostafa inspected Hulwan Company for Non-Ferrous Industries (Factory 63) as part of a series of inspection tours in the companies and units affiliating to the Ministry of Military Production to stand on the flow of work.

The factory produces brass casting for ammunition and civilian products which include irrigation sprinklers, aluminum foils, brass, copper and aluminum brass, sections, strips, plates, tubes, blocks, castings, sheets, wires and cables, water combinations, aluminum tea pots, copper tables, insulated electric wires, copper and aluminum cables and conductors.

PM pleased with launch of Sinai development project

Launched early this week, a Sinai reconstruction plan is meant to achieve development on the peninsula, said Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli during a Cabinet meeting Wednesday.

Madbouli said he is happy that implementation of the plan has started after President Abdel Fattah El Sisi gave it the green light early this week, when he inspected equipment that are being used in the process.

The premier thanked Defense Minister Mohamed Zaki and the Armed Forces for their strenuous efforts to help give the development operation the go-ahead.

He also greatly appreciated efforts exerted by other ministries and bodies concerned with this file.

The meeting also tackled one-on-one talks between President Sis and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on bilateral cooperation.

Madbouli also reviewed the outcome of his recent visit to Qatar, hailing as “deep-rooted” relations between the two Arab countries.

Health ministry celebrates Rare Disease Day

The Ministry of Health celebrated Rare Disease Day by organizing a ceremony under the rubric “rare diseases challenges and new hopes for cure”.

Spokesman for the Health Ministry Hossam Abdel Ghaffar asserted on Wednesday1/3/2023 the importance of organizing cultural and awareness activities coinciding with day to raise the awareness on the rare diseases and urge early diagnosis of them to contribute to increasing the opportunities of treatment.

Rare Disease Day, February 28, the day dedicated to raising awareness of approximately 300 million people around the world living with a rare disease.

More than 6,000 rare diseases are characterized by a diversity of disorders and symptoms that vary not only from disease to disease, but also from patient to patient suffering from the same disease.

Al Azhar focuses on spreading peace – Grand Imam

Al Azhar’s main message has always been to bring about and spread peace, said Grand Imam Ahmed El-Tayyeb.

El-Tayyeb’s remarks came on Tuesday 28/2/2023 at a meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and his accompanying delegation in Cairo to probe means to strengthen cooperation between Hungary and the over 1,000-year-old prestigious Islamic institution.

The grand imam stressed that Al Azhar adopts a strategy to counter extremism locally and internationally, highlighting the establishment of its anti-extremism observatory in 13 languages and the Egyptian Family House which he chairs together with the pope of the Coptic Orthodox Church.

For his part, Orban lauded the great role played by the world’s highest seat of learning for Sunni Muslims, under the grand imam, to combat extremism and terrorism and spread moderate thought and peace.

Orban’s accompanying delegation included a host of Hungarian ministers, respective officials and Hungary’s Ambassador to Egypt Andras Kovacs, among others.

Carbon certificates are innovative financing mechanisms to address climate change

Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad stressed the importance of the Capital Law, which aims to develop regulatory and supervisory rules and standards in the field of the capital market in a way that is compatible with international rules and standards on the one hand, and benefits from economic growth in all sectors on the other hand.

She noted that the carbon certificate is one of the innovative financing mechanisms to address negative effects of climate change.

This came during her participation at the meeting of the Economic Affairs Committee in the House of Representatives, headed by MP Dr. Mohamed Suleiman to discuss the draft law submitted by Dr. Ghada Ali and others to amend some provisions of the Capital Law issued by Law No. 95 of 1992.
