Ministry of Awqaf denied reports about entitling any institution to be in charge of managing Hussein Mosque.

In a statement late Sunday, the ministry’s religious sector said there is only a cooperation protocol with mosques foundation “Masajid” to be in charge of cleaning, maintaining and securing the mosque, while the ministry is responsible for managing all religious, preaching and organizational issues.

Within this context, the sector thanked the foundation for its efforts to serve the mosque under the supervision of the ministry.

Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Mohamed Abdel Atti discussed during a meeting with Non-Executive Board Chairman of the Holding Company of Irrigation and Drainage Engineer Mohamed Sallam and members of the holding company’s affiliates a number of projects being implemented in the various water and drainage fields.

During the meeting Monday, the minister said the past period witnessed the restructuring of the holding company and its offshoots, with the aim of raising all water-operating entities’ management capabilities to improve operational components, increase profits, lure more investments, and keep pace with the latest up-to date advances, including incorporation of automated techniques that guarantee easy and speedy access to all related data.

He highlighted efforts to up and maintain the efficiency of the holding company’s equipment and stimulate useful usage of the company’s human and technical abilities, thus contributing to many ventures and more tenders.

The minister referred to an application shortlisting spare parts in the companies storehouses, with a view to reducing unnecessary purchases and utilizing available parts.

Abdel Atti issued his directives to continue on development drives to upgrade all applications involving data update that would help activate and fully utilize all newly applied modern techniques.

Environment Minister Yasmin Fouad asserted that relations between Egypt and Italy are “extended and constructive” in the environmental fields especially ahead of Egypt’s hosting the climate conference (COP27), due to be held in Sharm El Sheikh in November.

This came during the minister’s meeting with Italian Ambassador in Cairo Michele Quaroni as they discussed preparations for COP27.

During the meeting, the minister said that Egypt aims through its presidency of COP27 to build on the outcomes of Glasgow conference in order to achieve a progress on the negotiation track pertaining to climate changes and encourage countries to upgrade its national strategies to confront the negative impact of climate change.

Fouad said Egypt will allocate a number of days to address specific issues related to the initiatives that will be launched during the conference such as; financing and coping up with the global warming, water issues, food security, sustainable life in local communities along with other climate-related issues including the reduction of carbon emissions.

The minister also said that the conference will cover the role of science and technology in countering the impact of climate change with the involvement of a number of research and innovation centers affiliated to the conference’s Green Zone.

Fouad stressed that the COP 27 represents an opportunity to show Egypt in a distinct way through the exhibition that will be held in the Green Zone and include environmentally friendly technologies from Egyptian industries.

“We can also invite countries of the world through it to establish international partnerships. An example of this is energy-intensive industries and how they have turned into environment-friendly industries through real success stories to encourage Egyptian industries and show the world the extent of Egyptian capabilities and that we can create partnerships for cooperation with African countries,” Fouad added.

The Italian ambassador, for his part, asserted the importance of the event which draws a wide participation from the world countries, shedding light on Egypt’s strenuous efforts to push forward the climate action.

He voiced his country’s readiness to offer to its expertise in such domain to Egypt.

The Italian diplomat also praised Egypt’s interest in floating the water management issue among the conference’s initiatives, proposing to implement a number of joint workshops between the two sides to exchange expertise.

The EU delegation to Egypt is celebrating “Europe Day”, which is marked on May 9 every year, with holding with a series of activities organized by the EU Delegation and its Member States – in Cairo, Alexandria, and online like a video campaign titled “EU27@COP27”.

A press statement released on Monday by the EU Ambassador in Cairo Christian Berger said: “What does Europe Day tell us? It reminds us of the visionary ideas of European leaders like Robert Schuman to create an ever-deepening Union of sovereign European States to end a millennium of war and bloodshed among the European peoples. This plan, presented in a declaration on 9 May 1950, one day and five years after the end of a world war that had brought suffering and destruction on an unrivalled scale to Europe and far beyond, gave birth to an extraordinary peace project. For this achievement, the EU was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2012.”

“To our shock and dismay, on 24 February this year all-out war returned to Europe. Our neighbour, Ukraine, a sovereign and independent State has found itself subjected to a brutal and unprovoked aggression. Millions of innocent civilians have been forced to flee their country, many killed, maimed, raped or orphaned. ” according to the statement.

“The Russian war is causing unspeakable pain and destruction. It is gravely impacting a global economy still reeling from the pandemic. The EU and its Member States stand with Ukraine.” said the statement.

“And we stand with our partners that are affected by this war. The European Union is making available to countries in the region, particularly those hit by the disruption of grain deliveries, financial support under a dedicated Food and Resilience Facility. In the case of Egypt it is €100 million. This comes just after our support to confront Covid-19, with deliveries from the EU of millions of doses of vaccine to Egypt thus far. Our cooperation with a current active portfolio of well over €1 billion of grants, loans, and investments in Egypt covers every walk of life and hopes to benefit people all over the country in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030.” the statement read.

“2022 is a special year. Five decades ago saw the beginning of a close cooperation between the northern and southern shores of the Mediterranean, 45 years ago our partnership with Egypt. Together we have created profound ties in trade, investment, tourism and people-to-people contacts. We are strategic partners and 2022 will see more high-level visits, and the new Partnership Priorities to guide us in our cooperation.” the statement added.

“2022 is the Year of Youth in Europe and of Civil Society in Egypt; in 2022, Egypt will host COP27, a major international conference dealing with the climate crisis. Youth and Climate will thus be prominent during our EU month. The proud history of Egypt dates back thousands of years, but its population is young. The youth of our countries remind us each day that time is running out to save our planet. As Team Europe, EU Member States, EU Institutions and Banks, we are United for Climate. We are committed to work with the government and the people of Egypt for a safe and peaceful planet, on Europe Day, and every other day. ” added the statement.
